The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday took up an investigation into the alleged irregularities in the NEET UG 2024 examination. It has sent its teams to many states for that purpose. On the other hand, in the case of NEET paper leak, the Bihar Police has arrested five people from the Financial Crimes Unit. A total of 18 people have been arrested in the state of Bihar so far. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has debarred 17 more students for malpractice from the examination centers in Bihar. The NTA said that since the start of the controversy, similar action has been taken against a total of 110 students in various states.

Only 813 people

Due to the controversy over grace marks, only 813 out of 1,563 students who were asked to appear for the NEET exam again on Sunday appeared for the exam. The NTA has given grace marks to these candidates to make up for the time loss at six centers due to the delay in starting the examination on May 5. There are allegations that the marks have increased and six centers have cooperated. Candidates from the same center in Haryana scored full 720 marks. The controversy started when 67 students scored full marks in the NEET UG exam across the country.

Many arrested

The CBI (cbi) has registered an FIR under Section 20B and 420 in the NEET UG case. The governments of Bihar and Gujarat also issued notifications on Sunday transferring the registered cases to the CBI. Patna police arrested five people who were detained in Deoghar, Jharkhand on Sunday evening. All the accused are residents of Nalanda. Among them are Baldev Kumar, Mukesh Kumar, Panku Kumar, Rajeev Kumar and Paramjeet Singh.

Baldev Kumar, who is associated with the gang of Sanjeev Kumar alias Luton Mukhia, said in the statement that he had received the NEET UG exam paper in PDF format on his mobile phone a day before the exam. A police statement revealed that the main gang members accused of masterminding several inter-state paper leaks were the source of the answer sheet leaks.

The source of the leak

Baldev and his colleagues printed the answer sheets for students gathered at a house in Ram Krishna Nagar, Patna on May 4. On the other hand, a police statement disclosed that the Mukhiya gang obtained the NEET UG question paper from a private school in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand. Officials seized the partially burnt question paper from Patna House. They confirmed the source of the leak by comparing the paper with the reference questionnaire provided by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Number of failed students is 110

In this sequence, the National Testing Agency has debarred 63 students from Bihar for adopting unfair methods in the NEET exam. On Saturday, 30 students from Godhra in Gujarat were kept away from the exam, and now 17 more have been removed from the exam. In this background, the total number of debarred students has reached 110. Meanwhile, a high-level committee of the central government set up to review the performance of the National Testing Agency and suggestions on examination reforms is scheduled to meet on Monday. It is headed by former ISRO chief K Radhakrishnan.
