Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has dropped another bomb on the Congress party at a time when the ‘redistribution of wealth’ controversy is heating up. He said the previous Congress governments at the Centre had tried to create a rift in the country’s armed forces by recommending a ‘religion-based census’.

Visakhapatnam: Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has dropped yet another bomb on the Congress party at a time when the ‘wealth redistribution’ controversy is heating up. Addressing an election rally in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday, Hegde alleged that the previous Congress governments at the Centre had tried to divide the country’s armed forces by recommending a ‘religious census’.

“In 2006, the Sachar Committee set up by the Congress government had recommended a religion-based census in the armed forces. In its manifesto, the Congress has indicated that it will provide reservation to minorities on the basis of religion if it wins the recent Lok Sabha elections. If reservation for religious minorities is introduced and a religion-based caste enumeration is also carried out in the armed forces, it will not be good for the unity and integrity of the country,” Singh said. He said the promise made in the Congress manifesto in the name of welfare of minorities reminded him of the Samar Committee report.

Taking a dig at the Congress for its appeasement politics, Rajnath Singh said the party was trying to bring in communal reservations on the basis of religion. This exposes the true nature of the Congress party,” he said. He alleged that the promises made in the Congress manifesto were meant to divide the society. “The same party has divided the country in the name of religion and the real appeasement politics is in the DNA of the party,” Rajnath Singh said.

In undivided Andhra Pradesh…

He criticized the congress government in the erstwhile undivided Andhra Pradesh for setting up a ‘community laboratory’ by giving reservation to Muslims in government jobs. Singh said that from 2004 to 2014, the Congress government made five attempts for Muslim reservation and the Supreme Court and the laws of this country prevented them from moving forward their agenda.
