Hyderabad : Strongly condemning the remarks made in Parliament without proper understanding of Telangana’s history, culture, and the spirit of its movement, TPCC official spokesperson and noted activist Balaji Singh Thakur stated that such comments have deeply hurt the sentiments of the people of Telangana. He demanded that BJP MP Tejasvi Surya issue an unconditional apology to the people of the Telangana state.
Balaji Singh Thakur emphasized that the formation of Telangana was not merely a political development, but the result of decades-long people’s struggle. He recalled that students, employees, intellectuals, and common citizens collectively fought and sacrificed for the realization of the state. The entire movement, he noted, was carried out in a peaceful and democratic manner, showcasing Telangana’s aspirations to the nation without resorting to violence.
Referring to the leadership of K. Chandrashekar Rao, he said that the Telangana movement gained national prominence under his guidance. Drawing a sharp line against inappropriate comparisons, he stated that the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh into Telangana and Andhra Pradesh was conducted with mutual respect, like a separation between brothers, and not through violence.
He also acknowledged the role of the Indian National Congress in taking the crucial decision to form Telangana, despite anticipating political setbacks. At the same time, he credited national leaders like Sushma Swaraj and Rajnath Singh for extending support to the Telangana cause, which strengthened the movement.
“Just as a surgical procedure becomes necessary at times to save both mother and child, the bifurcation of the state was essential to address regional aspirations,” he remarked. He further pointed out that statements made in Parliament carry weight across the nation and must be delivered with responsibility and awareness.
Balaji Singh Thakur reiterated that respecting the self-respect and sentiments of Telangana people is paramount, and urged Tejasvi Surya to withdraw his remarks and tender an immediate, unconditional apology.
