Devotees thronged the hilltop Sabarimala temple in Pathanamthitta (Kerala) today in large numbers to visit ‘Makara Jyothi’. The entire area was resounding with the chanting of the devotees saying ‘Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa’. Lakhs of devotees flocked for the darshan of Jyoti. Makar Jyothi was seen between 6 to 8 pm at Ponnambalamedu, 4 km from Sabarimala. A large number of devotees wearing Ayyappa malas from Telugu states and other parts of the country have come to see the Jyoti darshan.

The local government has set up 10 viewpoints to see Makarajyoti as lakhs of devotees flock to see it. Darshan facilities have also been set up in Pulimedu, Parunthumpara, and Panchalimedu. Security was arranged with 1400 police under the command of eight DSPs in different areas to prevent any trouble for the devotees. But Makara Jyoti holds great significance among the people of the South. Most people believe that visiting Makarajyoti brings good luck, good health, and prosperity.
